PhoneTray Pro requires a voice / data / fax USB modem with Caller ID support to monitor and block incoming calls. You will need a USB modem in addition to your current DSL or cable modem or VoIP (Vonage / MagicJack) adapter. If you ordered PhoneTray Pro + Modem package, you will receive a Sewell USB modem that works very well with PhoneTray. If you do not have a compatible USB modem, please purchase one of the modems from the list of recommended modems.
Warning:
You need to connect your USB modem to your computer and phone line before installing PhoneTray Pro software.
Tip:
PhoneTray can monitor 2 phone lines. If you want PhoneTray to monitor a second phone line, you will need a second modem connected to Line 2 because each USB modem can monitor only one line.
Connecting your USB modem to the phone line
If you have a USB modem (for example a Sewell modem included with PhoneTray Pro + Modem package), connect your modem to an unused USB port on your computer using provided USB cable. Windows should detect the new modem and install its drivers automatically.
Connect the Line jack on the USB modem to the wall phone jack using the provided phone cable. Connect your phone to the Phone jack on the USB modem:
Tip:
If you have a Sewell USB modem, the red light on the modem should light up after the modem is connected to a USB port on your PC. The light will stay on indicating that the modem is powered on and working properly. Hiro H50113 modem has a blue light marked as Ready instead of the red light. It should also light up and stay on.
Pick up the phone connected to the modem and check for a dial tone. If you can hear a dial tone, the phone line is connected properly.
Your phone will still work as before even if your computer is turned off.
