PhoneTray works with a cable / fiber / DSL internet and digital phone service (Comcast XFINITY, Verizon Fios, AT&T U-verse, Time Warner Cable).
Warning:
You will still need a compatible USB modem in addition to your cable / DSL / fiber modem because PhoneTray cannot access proprietary hardware provided by your internet provider. You can buy PhoneTray Pro + Modem bundle from our website or order one of the compatible modems from Amazon.
When you get a USB modem (for example a Sewell modem included with PhoneTray Pro + Modem package), please do the following:
- Connect the USB modem to an unused USB port on your computer using provided USB cable. Windows should detect the new modem and install its drivers automatically.
- Unplug your phone from the phone jack on the cable modem / router and connect the Line jack on the USB modem to the Phone jack on the cable modem / router (the same jack that your phone was plugged into). You can use the phone cable provided with the USB modem.
- Plug in your phone into the Phone jack on the USB modem. Pick up your phone and check for a dial tone. If you can hear a dial tone, everything is connected correctly.
Your internet and phone service will continue to work using your cable / DSL / fiber modem exactly as before, and PhoneTray will be able to monitor incoming calls and block unwanted caller using the USB modem. The USB modem will be used to block unwanted calls, it will not be used for anything else.
Warning:
If the phone output from the Comcast Xfinity or AT&T U-verse modem is connected to your house phone wiring, please connect your USB modem to any wall phone outlet. Please refer to instructions in the Setting up PhoneTray with a USB modem article.
